I was thinking aloud today, about the coming events in Canada, and how it could affect the indigenous population of the region of New Quebec (1895), which was put under Quebec for administrative purposes.
There seems to be a definite malaise here on the part of the Chiefs of the tribes that the regions belong to, and so far Cree Grand Chief Matthew Come Coon has made no mention of what could happen if Quebec seceded unilaterally from Canada. Thus Quebec would have the upper hand and that is not a very good position for the Native peoples to find themselves in if hostilities ever broke out between Canada and Quebec.
Just think of how Quebec has tried to rip off Newfoundland & Labrador on the Hydro deal and its manoeuvres to stop Newfoundland & Labrador from getting Federal Funds and making deals with consortiums in order to sell their Hydro power to Nova Scotia and Maine.
Every move by Premier Danny Williams was sabotaged by Quebec, who wanted to run the project for Newfoundland & Labrador and make a healthy profit from it, except that they never counted on Premier Danny Williams making his own decisions for those projects.
It would be in the interest of the Natives peoples to keep an eye on Quebec, because they cannot be trusted, and might seek ways to annex the James Bay area to Quebec. That would be a great loss for all the Natives peoples living in the area.
These might be just thoughts at the moment, but who knows what tomorrow brings in its wake?
At the same time the formation of an Armed Aboriginal Militia might be a step in the right direction and a guarantee of freedom for the Native peoples residing in the James Bay area. These are all issues that have to be thought out, if the Native peoples want any security. To their credit I am very sure that there are scores of American Indians that have served in various branches of the U.S. forces that would willingly offer their services to train such a MILITIA for their brethren in Quebec.
