(Letter to the Minister responsible for the Reform of Democratic Institutions and Access to Information)
Dear Mr. Moreau,
I for one was not at all surprised by this outrageous demand being made by the Metis Nation of Quebec that was given recognition by the last Harper federal government, and I fully agree with it's Metis status. After all you so-called Quebecois are really a Metis people left here in North America after the defeat of Governor Vaudreul by British General Jeffrey Amhest on September 1760 at Montreal, New France. The French packed up and left, because they had agreed to cede what was New France to Great Britain, and also by the Anglo-French Treaty of Paris, that was signed on February 10, 1763. Thus you, the Metis people of New France had no where to go and if you stayed in the new British Colony of Quebec you would have to swear allegiance to the British Cown and become British subjects, which you willingly did.
Thus there was no longer a French presence in the Colony of Quebec, as its citizens were now British subjects. Any claim by you the Metis who style themselves as Quebecois/Quebecoise to a SEPARATE identity is therefore NULL and VOID. Because you are part of CANADA whether you like it or not. The present demand that Quebec be given 24% of the House of Commons seats falls well outside the scope of the Anglo-French Treaty of February 10, 1763. Besides that, there is no question that the wording of the demand for 24% of the House Commons seats falls into the category of open RACISM and it thus based on a similar practice as that of South African APARTHEID. Because it creates the impression that there are two levels of CITIZENSHIP in Canada. One the Metis or Quebecois as first class and the other second class comprising of all non-Metis people, and this idea is not just RACIST, it is abhorrant as well and is in violation of United Nations UniversaL Declaration og Human Rights that was signed by Canada on December 10, 1948.
On all counts the Quebecois claim to 24% of the House of Commons seats is just another attempt to bypass the U.N. Charter and also the Canadian CONSTITUTION of 1867 -1982. Any further representation in the Canadian Parliament must be based on the population of a province and not on its ethnic make-up, because that would be indulging in racism, which ever way one takes it. Ergo, any new seats in the House of Commons must be based entirely on demographics not RACE, as Quebec is now demanding from the Harper government of CANADA. Sorry! Nice try but No cigar and no Baasskap either.
