Complacency - A feeling of contentment or self-satisfaction, especially when coupled with an unawareness of danger, trouble or controversy. Complacency, that bugaboo, is one of the most dangerous conditions known to man. It's like driving 100 miles an hour in pea-soup fog and expecting that one's driving skills and reflexes will prevent an accident.
Americans have grown so insulated from their duty to be Americans that most folks assume elected politicians and appointed bureaucrats will keep our great country solvent -- while the fox is in charge of the henhouse.
In order to effect change, each of us must make a conscious effort to learn why economic things are in such a mess in Washington, D.C., and other places nationwide and worldwide. This may mean missing a few nights out for movies or sports events. The foxes count on most people's love of comfort zones -- those places where thinking about things that are not always pleasant can be pushed aside or denied -- and for the most part, the foxes are correct. People don't usually look for things outside the light of home, even though a haboob is brewing in the District of Columbia that cannot long be denied.
Default is De Fault of everyone who trusted "someone else" to watch the henhouse. Better check and do an egg count. In the old days, foxes and dogs that sucked eggs were not welcome.
