I can never look upon our flag without tears welling up in my eyes as I think about the countless people that died trying to reach our shores to immigrate honorably (many of them having to invest years of hard labor to work off their indentured servant status); the countless people, more than a few of them whose remains still lay in countries far from our shores, the veterans that never made it home physically, but whose hearts never left our shores when they set out to protect us and our peerless land.
No matter what "political party" takes up space in D.C., this land is your land, this land is my land, and I shall call it beloved, and blessed by God, and shall never be anything less than humbled and blessed to have been born here and live here. I shall never, ever take it for granted.
