The top leader of the terrorist group Hezbollah warned the United States government last Friday that interference in the internal affairs of Iran and Syria, or any attack by the U.S. military attack, would result in violence throughout the Middle East.
During his annual televised speech to celebrate Hezbollah's "Martyr's Day," the group's secretary-general, Hassan Nasrallah cautioned the U.S. saying, "The U.S. should understand that a war against Iran and Syria will not remain in the Iranian and Syrian territories, but it will engulf the whole region."
Hezbollah's leader claimed the U.S. is "attempting to compensate for losses in the region as a result of the continued unrest in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia" and the Iraqi government's decision to have the U.S. withdraw completely in December.
"These changes in the region are not in the interests of the United States, and as a result, the resistance is gaining momentum, " he said.
The United States, Israel and European Union nations are calling for more drastic sanctions on Iran after learning of the International Atomic Energy Agency report claiming that Iran is currently designing a nuclear bomb while pretending the government is developing peaceful uses for nuclear power.
"The United States wants to subjugate Iran and force it to have direct negotiations with [its diplomats] and wants to subjugate Syria to accept what it has never accepted in the past," the Hezbollah chief said.
Nasrallah also warned that Lebanon has become stronger and more capable of thwarting Israeli attacks given Hezbollah's increased power and weaponry.
"It is unlikely that Israel would wage war against us. Lebanon is in a position where it can turn the tables on those who attack," he said.
This week, the latest report released by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that "credible evidence showed that Iran has engaged in projects and experiments relevant to the development of nuclear weapons."
The Iranian government and government-run news agency completely rejected the report and insisted that Iran had no nuclear weapon programs, calling the IAEA report "imbalanced, unprofessional and politically-motivated."
