WSYY Radio or MAGIC Radio?
On November 19, 2007, Jim Talbott, owner of Millinocket radio station WSYY, discovered that tax-supported Millinocket Area Growth & Investment Council (MAGIC) filed an application with the FCC to acquire a radio station which will directly compete with WSYY, 94.9 FM and 1240 AM, which broadcasts throughout the Katahdin Region.

The Problem With MAGIC
The local problem in Millinocket is not hate, nor is it a vendetta. The problem is outrage at the way business has been conducted between the town and Millinocket Area Growth & Investment Council (MAGIC), and between MAGIC and those they refuse to listen to.

Smears and Whispers
A couple of weeks ago, I found out that someone here in town was planning to "out" me for what I am: an ex-heroin addict and recovering alcoholic who has been clean and sober for more than 16 years now. (Though I expect she would conveniently have left out the last part of that sentence...) I found out, in fact, that she had spoken to several people about it -- some of whom one would think are "pillars of the community."

Setting the Record Straight
I spoke to someone today who believed that someone here at the Magic City Morning Star site (specifically our forum), started a boycott against Matt's business, and I am compelled to set the record straight.

The Government We Deserve
This morning, someone said to me, "We get the kind of government we deserve." I used to believe that, but now I disagree entirely.

We Fight Issues; They Fight Personalities
It is said that when a politician cannot counter a question of the issues, he will resort to personal attacks. Nowhere is that more true than in Millinocket, Maine.

Smears and Lies: The Polstein Style in Action
The other day, someone sent me a copy of Downeast Magazine, which featured Councilor Matthew Polstein and his Hammond Ridge resort plans. I read a statement from Councilor Matthew Polstein about hate mail he claims he got a couple of years ago and thought to myself, "Elections must be coming up again."

1st Amendment: Endangered Species in Millinocket
Taking advantage of what can only be described as a lynch mob mentality, the Millinocket Town Council invited the public to discuss the Magic City Morning Star and how to "drive it out of town."

Millinocket: A Tourist Town
I was tooling around the internet yesterday and ended up looking at the MAGIC site. It was there that I noticed something that is very telling. In fact, what I found simply underscores what I've been telling people for some time now: MAGIC wants to make Millinocket a 100% tourist town.

Public Information Vs. Obstructionist Publication
I have been trying to remember the last time that I saw a newspaper -– any newspaper –- publish the names of those who signed a petition.

Very recently, someone suggested to me that by getting illegal aliens to do "the more menial tasks, we are freed up to do the higher-valued, more productive jobs."
