Christianity In Our Country

There was a recent study that showed religious people brake fewer laws. This government study is interesting in as much as there has been so much discrimination of religious behavior in our community. The question remains, is it religion or Christianity that promotes good behavior?

If you google the history of the Treaty of Tripoli you will see it talks about the United States is not founded on the Christian religion. If you google Christianity and the United States Government it will say the same thing. In fact, it will go as far as to say that extreme right conservatives are trying to rewrite our history.

The problem is the fact that original history and other books of that time period still exist. We all know not all our founders practiced Christian values in their daily walk. However, those of us old enough know the topic of God was intertwined in the many debates that put our government structure into place. That is one of the reasons why the Bill of Rights was established.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The first Amendment shows that the very first concern was the right to pursue religion. The reason for the word religion to be used rather than Christianity is because there were many denominations representing the worship of God. There had been much persecution of faith throughout Europe before the United States finally became a political government. Many of its citizens of that time had lived through or had ancestors that had lived through such demise.

Most people think the first amendment is just for the protection of the press. Not so. It is also for the protection of our religious freedoms.

The point is there seems to be a movement going on today to disassemble the practice of Christianity. I say practice because you can never take Christ out of the true Christian. It is possible to punish a Christian for publically participating in their faith.

Nativity scenes are disappearing from schools and court houses. It has been considered near illegal; at times illegal, to pray in our schools or have Bibles available to our young people in the school setting. Yet, it is encouraged to pray, even have Bible studies, and provide Bibles to those in our prisons. I cannot help but wonder how many would have been in prison had the same been provided in our schools. We have created a dilemma that will only get worse.

It is considered illegal to lie under oath in a court of law, but yet our politicians practice this on a daily basis. We get upset when our children are exposed to extreme danger such as shootings, gangs, drugs, rapes, and a whole list of other terrible crimes. We are so upset some of us blame God for this. We do not consider how our communities work so hard to ignore or otherwise deny God in our daily routines and how we laugh at those who attend church or ask the most important question that could ever be asked. Do you know Jesus Christ as your personal savior?

We are so concerned about our finances and future that we neglect to consider the future of our souls beyond death. We fascinate ourselves with morally inept movies, parties, public celebrations by celebrities that should be the examples for our youth. They are, but not to the moral fiber that is needed to be successful in any day and age.

We encourage behaviors that are obviously contrary to the very nature of our existence. It is as simple as trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Our behavior has become so deviant that we find ourselves trying to dictate laws to compensate for the failures of our choices. We refuse to accept we have made mistakes and that only a supreme being can save us from our insanities.

There are actually those who believe we can become what some call self-actualized. That is kind of like being self-contained. In a sense we are a god unto ourselves. How could a human being ever become such a deity? It is impossible.

Years ago it was accepted there is a true living God. He can be seen in the world about us. Is it a coincidence that the solar system so closely resembles the makeup of an atom? There are those who believe the concept of evolution. They completely disregard the fact that Charles Darwin recanted his claims in later years. He realized how impossible the concept was. Still we teach it in our schools as if it is a proven fact. It is not.

How is it so believable for that theory to hold water and yet completely impossible to believe in a true living loving God? Simple. There is also this entity known as Satan. He is real. In fact there are far more people who believe in Satan than there are those who believe in Jesus Christ.

There is but one truth in this world. That truth is Jesus Christ. He is real and he is the only one that can pull us out of this murky dark dismal place we are in. He is the only one who can honestly claim that he is the way, the truth, and the life and that no one can come to the Father except by him.

In Romans we read that all have sinned. Every one of us is guilty. The wages of sin, the result of sin, is death. We also know the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. By confessing with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing that God raised him from the dead we are saved. Even now he is at the right hand of God to pray for us on a continual basis. He is real.

Messiah or AntiChrist

In January 2013, the cover of Newsweek has an interesting title. It says The Second Coming: America expects; can he deliver. The pope of the Catholic Church has released a statement that says, "You ask me if the God of the Christians forgives those who don't believe and who don't seek the faith. I start by saying -- and this is the fundamental thing -- that God's mercy has no limits if you go to him with a sincere and contrite heart. The issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience." It is alarming to have these statements even raised to begin with.

A short story by Michael Wright: Lost in Teen - Part 1 of 5

After putting his books back in his locker, Mark found his way to the exit doors where Jeff and Matt were waiting for him. They walked quietly from school to Jeff's house. It was good to feel the warmth of the sun on them this unusually warm fall day. The color of the leaves was growing bright. This made it more enjoyable to all of them as they walked through the historic small town.

Michael Wright is a resident of Albuquerque, N.M. After an honorable discharge from the United States Army, Michael Wright earned his master's degree in Secondary Counseling and worked with troubled teens for more than 20 years. He has recently published a 374 page book called Death of a Green Soldier which was released on June 20th. All proceeds from the sales of Death of a Green Soldier will go toward a missionary mission to the Philippines.

Control Freak: Take Responsibility for Your Own Life (Part 1 of 2)

There have been so many reports of people who lost health insurance while trying to apply as law-abiding citizens. Many were given Medicaid when they were not applying for it. Some had rates rise far greater than they could ever afford to pay. The most concerning is the idea that once given the information the program can be hacked by professional hackers and all your information is now in the hands of people who are less than honest. It is hard to know who is in control.

Life Lessons from Sir Isaac Newton

It has been proven over and over that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. Think about car accidents: it seems drivers are always trying to prove this theory false. Sometimes the result of testing this theory is very traumatic and sometimes it's almost comical. Sadly, too many times it ends tragically.
