Remembering - A Transition to a New Year
I need reminders. At the end of one year and the beginning of the next, I become more introspective than I usually am. A few weeks ago, I remembered the following story. It helped me to think through the process of making the transition from one year to the next. And it reminded me how we live in three worlds and how they contribute to making us who we are: our past, our present, and our plans for the future.

Husbands, A Convenient Excuse
The other day my wife suggested a title for an article, "Husbands: a convenient excuse." Just prior to that she had been going over a list of things that she had wanted to get done, but she hadn't, and jokingly she said, "And it's your fault." That's when she came up with the title. She thought it would be funny. I thought it had possibilities.

One of Those Questions
As my wife got home from work she greeted me with one of those kinds of questions that women often ask and that frustrate men. It wasn't a "How was your day?" or "What's for dinner?" (Cooking is my job since I get home first.) I could have answered any of those.

A Valentine’s Day Gamble
I entered a Valentine’s Day contest. Not an official one, but one that could have had serious consequences. Maybe call it a bet. Whatever you call it, it was a gamble.

Magic Puddles
There are times I get tired of the rain. And where I live, it really doesn’t
rain that much. But I’m ready for some warmth. I know the ecological importance
of rain. Don’t need a science lesson. To make it through, I need something more.
As I was reflecting (griping) about the rain, I remembered something that
happened outside my classroom on ANOTHER rainy day.

Making the New Work
New. New Year, new schedule, new place to live, new wife, that’s how I started
this New Year. I started this article a couple of weeks ago as part of “the
new”, but a week or so was spent moving from my apartment to my fiancé’s house.
Well my wife’s house as of December 30th. One of the many benefits for me of
“marrying up.”

Up or Down? That’s the Question.
There are many issues that create tension between men and women. Some questions do little but divide. One question, though it hasn’t been with us that long, remains a source of conflict between husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends, mothers and sons.

“Got Gaps?”
Rocky Balboa was talking to Adrian in the first “Rocky” film. It’s been a good while since I’ve seen the film, but as I remember, the scene went something like this. Adrian was talking about a “gap” in her front teeth. Rocky said something like, “It’s OK. I got gaps, and you got gaps, and together we don’t have as many gaps.”
