We will begin with the concepts of release, breath and effort, while encouraging an increase in our levels of physical awareness. Dancing with gravity, voice and ease as our guides, we will focus on the intelligence and logic of our own unique bodies to open a fun and creative dance space. We will work with the principles of weight, momentum and inversion while dancing dynamic, physical phrases.

Alexander Zendzian is a dance artist based in San Francisco CA. He began his study of movement at age seven at the Thomas School of Dance in Bangor, ME and continued to train there and with the Robinson Ballet Company till he was twenty-three. He received a BA in Cultural Performance Studies from The Evergreen State College in Olympia WA in 2001. He has had the opportunity to work and perform with dance pioneers Anna Halprin and Sara Shelton Mann, to dance on vertical surfaces and in the air around the world with Project Bandaloop, and to perform with Kathleen Hermesdorf, Jodi Lomask and Sheldon Smith & Lisa Wymore. He is currently in his sixth season as a member of the Joe Goode Performance Group, with whom he performs and teachers throughout the US. Alexander has taught in a variety of venues ranging from universities to dance studios, with at-risk teens and for senior groups. In addition to his work in dance, Alexander plays baritone horn in the Brass Menažeri Balkan Brass Band and is a partner in the Awaken Café in Oakland CA.
