Well it be that time o' year again when the true spirit of Modern Christmas raises its ugly head.
I be readin of late, even here in the Magic City News that many people be upset about takin 'Christ' out of Christmas. Do ye be wonderin why that is? Let me tell ye now.
In years past there be many a greetin card that read 'Seasons Greetins' an no one be upset by the receivin of the same, an likewise many a card that said 'Merry Christmas' with similar reaction.
It made no never mind what the card said, because it was the thought that counted. But today, our thoughts be so muddled with all the politically correct cow patties that we be afraid now to utter a word lest some intended recipient of our best wishes dumps coals on our heads for darin to utter words which of themselves have no purposeful nasty meanin. In past times we accepted the intention of the wishes, but today no one cares what ye intention is, they only care about conformin themselves to the political dictates of ideologues.
It be this which makes even a non religious man rebel. There be many I'm sure who care not for religion nor yours in particular, but when it comes to bein forced to comply with the wishes of a few political weasels, they be diggin their heels in. The religious themselves be understandin that. Did ye ever hear of a man in years gone by who be upset that he received a 'Seasons Greetins' card instead of a 'Merry Christmas' card or vice versa? I be thinkin not!
What raises the ire of people today is that they have no choice in the matter of how they express their greetins. Well of course we know that they be wrong. They do have a choice! They can like it or lump it!
There be also another reason why so many be upset with removin Christ from Christmas, an that be that they are afraid that we be turnin into a pagan country, an let's face it now, there be plenty about spreadin the word of 'Gaia' an such like. Many there be that would see God himself the Creator replaced by 'Mother Nature'.
Sure it is a fine thing indeed that the saints of old worked so hard to rid Europe of paganism, only to have their work undone in these enlightened times. Many a young folk I'm sure has been caught up in the exotic worship of Mother Nature or Gaia or some such, but what do they know of the 'old religions' an what mischievous an deadly things they got up to like the murderin of sweet innocent children.
I'm certain I am that many think the 'old religions' were about havin orgies or running naked through fiery flames. Me own thinkin is that there be nothin wrong about watchin young lads an lasses runnin naked through bonfires. It will after all prepare them for what they be doin in eternity.
A man's religion is his own as me grandda used to say, but no one has the right to tell you what to think an say, especially when it comes to expressin good wishes an God's blessins.
When one or another says to me 'Happy Holidays', I don't get upset by that, but I will reply 'Merry Christmas' to it. Now if that offend them, then I am glad of it you see. It's sorta like the old tale about a man who lent 1,000 pounds sterling to a friend an then the friend disappeared for good. When asked how he felt about the lendin of the money to such a vagabond, the man replied: 'I would have paid twice the price just to get rid of him'.
Ye should not be offended by them that would throw your greetin an blessin back in ye face, but rather be thankful that the Good Lord has shown you the true color of their soul.
A friend is a man who knows ye heart an character an puts up with what he sees as its defects. But the man who would force ye to think an act as he does is no true friend at all.
'Tis easy to see the True Spirit of Christmas in a man, for it be patient and lovin, kindhearted and forgivin, gentle and longsufferin.' Remember that when next ye be meetin some devil that pretends to be carin for humanity but who has no such qualities in his soul.
'They that be mine recognize me voice' so the Good Book says, and therein lies a powerful message indeed. Listen to the voices of those who would raise arms up against ye, and see the author of their particular faith.
But from me and mine I send ye greetins at this Holy time of Year, and may ye and yours have a Happy and Blessed Christmas.
