The Hunt Is On!

If you like games, mystery, and adventure, then the Believe in Books Literacy Foundation has the perfect event for you! The Hunt for Literacy is a unique scavenger hunt throughout the White Mountains taking place the weekend of May 17th- 18th. Teams of up to 6 participants will hop in their cars and set off chasing clues and earning points for a chance to win a grand prize of $2,500 cash! New to the event this year is the choice of competing in a one, or two day event. Teams opting for the one day event have a chance of winning a $1,000 grand prize! "We want participants to enjoy their drive and the Hunt whether the team is a couple or an entire family. The two day event can be a little too much of a challenge for families with smaller children," explains A.O. Lucy, Executive Director of the Believe in Books Literacy Foundation.

In addition to expanding the participation options, this year's Hunt for Literacy promises to be bigger and better in other ways as well. Teams may choose either the North Conway or the Lincoln, NH starting point, and will enjoy the beauty of the landscape while expanding their knowledge of the whole White Mountain region. Their drive will lead them to a variety of creative clue stops and challenging pit stops where either their brains, or their brawn, will earn them the points they need to continue their Hunt. "All you need is some basic knowledge of the North Country, an interest in the local flora and fauna, and a great sense of adventure, and you just may have a shot at the prize!" says Mr. Lucy.

All entry fees for the Hunt for Literacy go towards supporting the Believe in Books Literacy's Foundation's tremendous Outreach Reading Program, which now reaches over 1,300 households in Northern New Hampshire and Western Maine! Each Outreach visit to a preschool includes a volunteer reader who shares a story with the class, a larger-than-life Storybook Character, and the gift of a brand new book for each child to take home and share with their family. The Hunt for Literacy is one of Believe in Book's newest fundraisers, joining The Polar Express Event, the Push for Literacy, and later in June, the Race for Reading. For more information, or to register your team, call (603) 356-9980 or log on to www.huntforliteracy.org/. Registration is limited to the first 100 teams, so sign up today!
