Teacher of the Year Nominees to be Honored; 14 Nominees in State House Ceremony March 13

AUGUSTA, MAINE -- The 2010 nominees represent Princeton Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School, D.W. Lunt School, Glenburn Elementary School, Congin Elementary School, The REAL School, Nokomis Regional High School, Waterboro Elementary School, Willard School, Mt. Ararat High School, Fred P. Hall Elementary School, Biddeford Middle School, Piscataquis Community High School, and Stearns High School.

WHEN: Friday, March 13, 11:00 a.m.

WHAT: Governor John Baldacci, Deputy Education Commissioner Angela Faherty and others will honor the nominees for 2010 Teacher of the Year

WHO: 14 nominees (listed below), Governor Baldacci, Deputy Commissioner Faherty and 2009 Teacher of the Year, Gloria Noyes

WHERE: Hall of Flags, State House, Augusta

The nominees will undergo an intensive selection process; consisting of a school visit, a professional portfolio review, an oral presentation, and final interviews before the 2010 Maine Teacher of the Year is selected. The selection committee includes past Teachers of the Year, principals, Department of Education staff, members of professional organizations and the business community. The 2010 Maine Teacher of the Year will be announced at a surprise all-school assembly in early September.

The Teacher of the Year program is generously supported by Hannaford Supermarkets.

The 2010 nominees are:
