Orono Middle School designated a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The school attained this designation due to very high levels of student achievement.

Orono Middle School is one of over 300 public and private schools across the country receiving this recognition today. At the invitation of Education Secretary Duncan, the principal and one teacher from each school will be invited to Washington, DC for the November 14th and 15th awards ceremony. At the awards ceremony, each of the schools will receive a Blue Ribbon Schools plaque and a flag to signify its status.

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program is part of a larger Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching practices. More information on the program can be found here.
