Wednesday, October 9th at 10:00 a.m. (ET), the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning & Engagement (CIRCLE), the preeminent youth research center based at Tufts University's Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service and one of the most frequently cited sources on young voters in the 2012 election, will release the findings of a groundbreaking report by the Commission on Youth Voting and Civic Knowledge entitled, "All Together Now: Collaboration and Innovation for Youth Engagement."
The Commission on Youth Voting and Civic Knowledge is a distinguished group of bipartisan scholars convened by CIRCLE to investigate exclusive data collected during and after the 2012 elections on issues such as civic knowledge, voting behavior, and the educational experiences of Americans ages 25 and under -- a crucial constituency in electoral politics. The report is based, in part, on data from more than 6,000 young adults and 720 high school civics or government teachers. At the release, new findings will be disclosed concerning, for example, the degree of parental pushback when political topics arise in social studies classrooms.
The report will help address vital questions about youth civic engagement, including:
Are young people learning to discuss difficult political issues in schools, and how are they being affected by the gridlock and acrimony in Washington?
What is the real effect of voter ID laws and other voting laws on young voters?
What are young people learning about politics in schools?
Should states mandate courses and tests for civics?
SPEAKERS: Trey Grayson, former Secretary of State (R-KY), Director of the Harvard Institute of Politics, Member of the Presidential Commission on Election
