Down by the old mill stream, in this case the Piscataquis River in the tiny remote Maine town - "unorganized territory" - of Blanchard. Most Maine towns began by someone making his way north from Massachusetts and building a mill on a stream. Others followed and got their wheat or lumber or whatever they needed from the mill. Most Maine towns are along rivers or streams. Photo by Dolores Bernier.
