Christian Book Basket Magic City (16)
By R.P. BenDedek

On Sundays we publish the regular book basket which highlights (no more than 15) new book releases by providing publicity material sent by publicists.

It also features links to whatever articles book authors have sent in for publication that week, and additionally displays links to whatever book reviews have been published.

(No one at all at Magic City receives any financial gain from any of the services we provide in relation to new book releases or reviews.)

To ease pressure on the regular book basket, in March we inaugurated the 'Christian Book Basket Magic City' which is published irregularly on a Wednesday. In that basket we highlight whatever Christian books have come to our attention during the previous weeks. We also occasionally do a 'Childrens Book Basket.'

We offer all authors a "no-pay no-charge" self-promotions offer to provide 'stand alone' articles within which we will publish bios, book cover photographs and links to purchase pages for their book release. This is not an offer to rehash publicity material, but to offer our readers something interesting to read. As we have no regular contributor to our Christianity section, Christian writers are welcome to write on any Christian topic.

We now only have one regular Christian book reviewer and are looking for more.

Most Recent Christian Book Reviews:

M. W. Johnson Book Review: "Reliant" by Kellyann Bowman
Nov 6, 2014

Basically the book provides practical advice for real situations and refers the reader back to the author and finisher of Life itself. Her straightforward narrative style recognizes the realities of life and human emotions and while offering good advice, does not attempt to gloss over the difficulties of the process of "overcoming" that each Christian must endure. After many years of sadness, suffering and alcoholism; years of turning away from God because of her pain and anguish, the author finally turned toward God and commenced a new life.

Estelle Parke Book Review: "The Secret Hidden in Plain Sight" by Hoppy Bishop
Nov 2, 2014

Hoppy Bishop has in this book, lined up many historical occurrences and their dates, with Hebrew Feast days or Holy days and has provided theologically sound reasons to explain why such events happened just when they did. I found this book to be an interesting and informative read and would recommend it highly to both Bible teachers and lay people, all of whom should find it to be quite captivating and most relevant to the times in which we live.

R.P.BenDedek Book Review: "A Covenant People" by James P. Eckman
Aug 10, 2014

This book by James P. Eckman is a very informative and many faceted presentation of the history of Israel. If it were to be given a different title, then 'History of Israel 101' would be a very appropriate one. Because of my over-familiarity with the subject matter, halfway through I was tempted to write my review. I'm glad I didn't! Chapters 12 through 15 were for me somewhat of a revelation, and I eagerly sat at the master's feet and soaked in as much as I could. It provides the reader with what I consider to be an evenhanded academic approach to the realities on the ground.

Estelle Parke Book Review: 'In the Spirit of Elijah' by Trevor Payne
Jul 31, 2014

He has managed to write the book in such a way as to present the characters, especially John the Baptist, the Lord Jesus Christ and assorted disciples, as real, human, genuine people. In this regard, I feel that the author is to be commended for a job well done. He has included a variety of small, personal accounts and incidents which help to humanize the Biblical characters and 'bring them to life' for the reader. I was disappointed to discover that there are numerous grammatical and other errors of writing throughout the work...

"A Year of Feasting"

By Sonya A. Mozingo

"A Year of Feasting" By Sonya A. Mozingo
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Sonya Mozingo's family life had been suffering for 23 years. Things were crumbling around her and the straining difficulties that they experienced almost resulted in the dissolution of her family. Be it divine providence or coincidence, Mozingo was introduced to the teachings of Larry Hutch, a non- denominational evangelical pastor who believes in studying Christianity from a Jewish perspective.

Applying the principles of Jewish foundationalism to her faith set off a series of chain-reactions that led to dramatic improvements in the family. In fact, she says they changed her whole life.

"It was like the layers of an onion peel being removed," said Mozingo. "The atmosphere in our house began to change subtly at first, but enough to know that things were becoming very different."

In the hopes of sharing the blessings she has received, Mozingo has written a new book titled "A Year of Feasting." In it, she helps readers to prepare and celebrate the seven feasts of God that occur throughout the year. The book is an easy-to-use manual on how to observe the biblical feasts with friends, family and church-groups.

"The feasts are like God's rhythm and heartbeat. While it's true that he can bless us at any time, these special occasions traditionally serve to focus some of his richest blessings," said Mozingo.

With all of the turmoil occurring in the world, Mozingo is doing her part to bring Jews and Christians together. She is especially proud to have introduced local churches to the feasts and to have hosted the Jewish community in their celebrations. These dinners and celebrations helped to build an important relationship within the community that was not present before her book.

Sonya Mozingo operates Sound of Joy Ministries. Her family saved by the principles she shares in "A Year of Feasting," they continue to celebrate the feasts together at Sonya's home near Raleigh, North Carolina.

"If Only I Knew: Walking Toward Christian Maturity"

by Peter Clay

"If Only I Knew: Walking Toward Christian Maturity" by Peter Clay
United Kingdom -- Peter Clay has ministered across the UK and in North America; an amazing accomplishment for a man who, in his younger years, was unable to find answers to his most basic of religion-based questions. Growing in faith did eventually answer most of them -- knowledge he is now committed to sharing with others so they can speed up their own journeys toward Christian maturity. But Clay didn't resort to a book of straight affirmations or scripture; instead opting for a unique literary device that is gripping readers around the world. It's all divulged in 'If Only I Knew: Walking Toward Christian Maturity'.

As a young man in the Christian faith Peter had many questions but was unable to find people with any answers. As he walked with God and grew in faith he realised that the knowledge this journey gave him, in later life, would have been really useful to him when he was younger. With this insight he might have matured earlier! In this book, Peter exchanges emails with his younger self. The advice and encouragement will be helpful to anyone seeking to grow into Christian maturity.

"Now knowing what I know, I can't keep silent when I'm aware that thousands are searching for the same answers," explains Clay. "I was once one of them and nobody turned to assist me. I see it as my duty to God to share what he has taught me so that others can grow closer to their faith. Any Christian can mature, but it's a journey that never ends. We're all continuing the process and learning more about our place in God's grand design along the way. It's in my nature to minister and share God's word, so this book is a natural stepping stone in my own spiritual journey."

Peter Clay was born in Leeds and became a Christian in 1985 at his grandfather's funeral. He lives with his wife in Nottinghamshire and has three children and five grandchildren. Peter has been involved in ministry in a variety of settings including coffee bars, church planting and pastoring. He and his wife have also worked with young homeless mothers and Peter has ministered in churches in the Bronx and Queens, in New York, and cities across the UK.

"Reliant" by Kellyann Bowman
SEATTLE -- Kellyann Bowman knows firsthand the Lord moves in powerful and purposeful ways. Her new book "Reliant," is a 28-day devotional journal that features her personal triumphs and struggles along with an inspirational bible verse each day.

Bowman unites the scripture with her journey and shares how God has spoken to her through the verses. The journal then allows readers to respond with how the Holy Spirit is working in their own lives.

"I wrote this book to help people discover the need and love of God and his word and how to apply it to their own life," Bowman said. "God's plan is so much greater and once we make the choice to focus on Him, we can really begin to live and love."

"Reliant" not only connects believers with scripture, but also offers support as they begin to develop a loving relationship with God.

Bowman hopes that as readers enter into the book, they not only come with a heart longing for a deeper connection with God, but also pray that God show them how to apply the verses and her story to their own life. For more information, visit

"He IS Real"

By Janis Bolton Drinnon

"He IS Real" By Janis Bolton Drinnon : Wings of Tru Love by Kenneth C Drinnon
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Kenneth Drinnon and his wife Janis Bolton Drinnon might have come of age during World War II, but that doesn't mean they are slowing down in their golden years. In fact, this husband-and-wife team shows Millenials what is possible with work ethic and passion. Kenneth served as a B17 ball-turret gunner in World War II, flying 34 missions over Germany and supporting troops with a bombing campaign during the Battle of the Bulge. He then became an electrical engineer, publishing a paper through a well-known trade magazine and presenting his ideas at a trade conference that same year.

Rather than relax in retirement, Kenneth took up several years of research to publish his first book Drinnons of Mulberry Gap, a historical non-fiction book. In addition, the veteran not only typed and edited his wife's book of poetry but also wrote a second book, Wings of Tru Love: A WWII B17 Ball-Turret Gunner Memoir, which details Drinnon's wartime experience, including his memories of the Battle of the Bulge, as well as how the war affected the rest of his life.

"Once I began writing about my war experiences, it occurred to me that my military experience had a great deal to do with what I was able to accomplish," Kenneth said.

Not to be outdone, Janis is a former journalist and church drama department director who sang in university and church choirs. She not only produced and directed the plays at her church but also created the drama department to begin with. Janis published her first poem at age 72, and five years later singer Jody Murphy selected Drinnon's poem "He Is Real" from her "In HIS Care" poetry collection to sing and record in Nashville. Her new book He IS Real pairs her inspirational poetry with Bible verses.

"Sometimes along life's journey, there are times that things just seem to happen," Janis said.

Kenneth Drinnon and Janis Bolton Drinnon have been married for 66 years and have one daughter, three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

"Where Moses Stood"

by Robert Feather

"Where Moses Stood" by Robert Feather
United Kingdom -- While the film 'Exodus: Gods and Kings' starring Christian Bale attempts to follow the conventional Ramses II story as it is in the Bible, scholar Robert Feather brands it as inaccurate Hollywood speculation. 'Where Moses Stood' is the latest in a long line of authoritative works from Feather, and the culmination of hundreds of hours of research and years of exploration in the Sinai. Above all, it tells the real story of many confused aspects of Moses' life. Details of the history is described in this latest book, which also reveals exactly where Moses stood to receive the Ten Commandments and the circumstances of the progression of the Exodus from Egypt to the Promised Land. In the course of the book's journey it describes the route of the Exodus; the exact location of the giving of the Ten Commandments; the remains of Part of The Tabernacle; the Copper Snake Moses used to ward off poisonous serpents; the 2,600 year old bones of the scapegoat used to carry off the sins of the people into the desert; a First Temple stone weight; and ..a sacred item once carried in the Ark of the Covenant.

"There's something very disconcerting about Hollywood trying to promote history it knows nothing about," explains Feather. "For example, Ridley Scott will not know about the real Mount Sinai and sequence of events of the Exodus. Ramses isn't even the Pharaoh of the pursuit! It's time to set the record straight." Robert Steven Thomas comments, "The author is an eminent British scholar and one of the world's leading experts on the Dead Sea Scrolls .... particularly the anomalous "Copper Scroll of Qumran." Feather has appeared as an expert on several television productions, including a full episode of National Geographic. Unlike almost all other Dead Sea Scroll experts, the author maintains no religious affiliations in relation to his writing." Where Moses Stood' is available now from Amazon and the author's official website:

Robert Feather was born in England and studied at Marylebone Grammar School and Sir John Cass College, London University, subsequently becoming a Member of the Institution of Metallurgists and a Chartered Engineer.

His book, The Mystery of the Copper Scroll of Qumran, was published by Inner Traditions, of America, in June 2003. A previous book, The Copper Scroll Decoded, published by HarperCollins in 1999, created a considerable amount of controversy in academic fields through the connection it makes between the Hebrews and Egypt. The book has been translated into Dutch, Italian, Japanese and Portuguese, and a BBC TV documentary, entitled The Pharaoh's Holy Treasure, based on the book, was first screened in March, 2002 and seen in various other European countries. The author participated in a BBC/Discovery documentary entitled The Spear of Jesus, first shown in 2003 and acted as a metallurgical consultant on a documentary related to Christopher Columbus.
