Maine Company Promotes Healthy and Sustainable Beekeeping with New Top Bar Beehive Kit

BATH, MAINE -- Gold Star Honeybees, based in Bath, Maine is promoting healthy and sustainable beekeeping methods with their new Gold Star Top Bar Beehive Kit. A top bar beehive is a type of hive that helps promote strong and healthy bees in the most natural way possible. The kit comes complete, with instructions for easy assembly.

It's Better for Bees!

Top Bar Beehive beekeeping, a healthy and sustainable method of beekeeping, allows bees to make their own wax – which means they can make it in the way it needs to be made – and make the honeycomb cells in the size that they need them to be, rather than a size determined by the beekeeping equipment manufacturer. This is important for lowering bees' stress levels, strengthening their immune systems, and helping to combat varroa mite infestations and other diseases that have been affecting the honeybee. Company founder Christy Hemenway says, “People have been worried by the frightening problems that honeybees have been experiencing of late, and now they can help turn this trend around.”

Until now, beekeepers who were unable to build their own top bar hive from scratch have been limited to “conventional” beekeeping equipment. The Gold Star Top Bar Beehive changes all that – making Top Bar Hive Beekeeping something that anyone can begin.

It's Better for the Beekeeper!

This type of hive is better for bees, yes, but it's also better for the beekeeper. It is often said that there is no such thing as a beekeeper without a bad back – due to all the heavy lifting involved with conventional beekeeping equipment. The Gold Star Top Bar hive stands at counter-height, eliminating awkward bending and stretching. The hive is a complete, self-contained unit and honey is removed from the hive one “top bar” at a time – avoiding the lifting of 40 to 80 pound boxes.

The hive kit is easy to assemble using only a Phillips head screwdriver and a staple gun. All parts are pine, cut and milled in Maine, pre-drilled for easy fit, and using only non-toxic paint and caulk.

Gold Star Honeybees also offers a Beekeeping Service for folks who want to help the honeybee, but are unable to keep their own bees. We place a hive on the client's property, and maintain it for the full season. The client gets to enjoy watching the bees, and gets all the benefits of their pollination, without having to tend the hive themselves.

Gold Star Honeybees – Beekeeping in Top Bar Beehives.

We are changing the face of beekeeping – one box at a time.

It's not about the honey, Honey – it's about the Bees!
