Why is our government spending billions of dollars building democracies in places like Afganistan and Iraq, and at the same time spending billions more erecting a police state in the United States?

Why did our government criticize the Soviet Union's identity cards, while they are now planning US national idenitity cards complete with retina scans and DNA information?

Why is the USA PATRIOT ACT [United and strenghtening America by Providing Appropiate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism] so called, when it actually divides and weakens the nation?

Why does our government define terrorism so broadly that any act of protest or civil disobedience can be construed as terrorism?

Why can internet service providers that move to quash government surviellance of their customers be charged with obstructing justice?

Why, when the 9-11 terrorist act which was allegedly caused by government's intelligence failures, is our government response to attack our civil liberties?

Why were all these police state measures sitting on the shelf in Washington when the 9-11 attack occured? Was this attack used as an excuse to grab constitutional power, as the Reichstag fire was for Hitler?

Why have more than 250 counties and municipalities in 28 states, plus 2 entire states, representing 43 million Americans, passed resolutions condemning the Patriot Act, and/or forbidding local law enforcement from cooperating with the Bush administration's attack on the Bill of Rights?

Do you find it refreshing and hopeful that there are 43 million Americans who recognize tyranny when they see it?

I do know that I, Bud Landry, fear my governments attack on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights far more than I fear the terrorists.
