From Magic City Morning Star|
The book portrayed them as a couple of brothers, which, of course, they were. The hardships they overcame on the coast as well as others closer to home makes me kind of awed that flight actually happened. The story is long and interesting.
Parts of it are almost unbelievable, like taking off from sand dunes to fly a few seconds. The pictures in this David McCullough book are also fascinating, seeing these two brothers and others as they fly and live normal lives.
If you've only heard the tales of a flight on the shore, you "ain't heard nothing yet." For most interesting reading, grab this one somewhere and take a night off from the TV reruns to enjoy this spectacular tale of two guys who wanted to fly.
I wonder if any of the passenger jet pilots skimming along way, way up there have ever read this. Would they think it too much of a fairy tale?
This fairy tale is real.
I can't loan you my copy. It's from the Searsport Library.
