Truth be known, headlines such as this one from Eagle County, Colo., "Obama money to build Edwards roundabouts" is untruthful. This is not Obama's money, it is your own money borrowed from you to pay you with.
Let's fast forward to 'Obama's money', aka Stimulus Package and the immediate taxpayer relief, i.e., the $13 dollars a week you should see on your paychecks beginning April 1st, 2009. I understand that employee tax relief but what about the self-employed person? They are capitalists; they work for themselves and not for a business or government agency. Where is their tax relief in this tax relief by taxpayer loan package?
Is this the beginning of the end for capitalism and free enterprise in America? For those who are paid by an employer will obtain immediate financial relief. Those who own their own business and so pay themselves will get what? Perhaps I just missed that part but thus far, I haven't found the answer that I seek today. It appears the American Dream is missing from this stimulus package, perhaps with intent.
For who is reaping the stimulus package rewards here? In simple format, government first, made up of local, state and federal, and workers second, those workers who fall among the average or lower income levels. That fits nicely with the direction of the Social democrats, which is defined as seeking nationalization of key national industries in mixed economies and tax-funded welfare programs along with the regulation of markets. That seems to be the perfect fit for not just this current bailout plan but for the next Economic Recovery proposal, to levy heavy tax increases against those American taxpayers who have more than the average income level in our country.
To me, the citizens who don't appear to emerge the winners here are those involved in any free enterprise; also know as private business ownership. This is the American Dream, which so many try to attain, a dream of free enterprise and capitalistic venture. The American Dream is not about a worker's paradise where the government guarantees everything from the entitlement to free health care to the entitlement of homeownership.
To define capitalism, it is an economic system in which wealth, and the means of producing wealth, are privately owned and controlled rather than commonly, publicly, or state-owned and controlled. To define socialism, it refers to a broad set of economic theories advocating public or state ownership and the creation of a society in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly.
It is going as planned, but what is the plan?
I think we all need to take a second look at the Obama Stimulus, also known as 'Obama's Money,' and the current United States government in bailouts by purchase. Then ask yourselves in what direction are we in America advancing towards and at what personal cost will that movement bring to you? Perhaps Senator Snowe can answer that, after all she is described as playing a key role in crafting the economic stimulus package per President Obama.
Part of the answer to those two questions lies within who it is that will be rewarded in this stimulus package and who won't be.
